You've done this before. It's a Sunday in August, you've got a blanket in the trunk, and you drive over to Menke Park for the concert like you have most summers. Except the gate's closed, there's construction fencing where the lawn used to be, and the pavilion you're used to seeing lit up at 5 p.m. is sitting empty behind orange netting. The concert is happening. Just not there.

That's not a hypothetical. It's this whole season. If the only thing you know about live music in Corte Madera is "Sundays at Menke Park," you're operating on outdated information, and you're also missing two other series running in town at the exact same time.

The Sunday tradition moved for the entire summer

The Corte Madera Community Foundation has sponsored free Sunday concerts in town for close to twenty years, going back to when the foundation helped raise the money for Piccolo Pavilion itself in the late 1990s. This year, the whole season is happening at Town Park instead, because Piccolo Pavilion and the park around it are mid-renovation. The town's own project page for the Menke Park Improvements Project spells out the scope: a new ADA-compliant pathway connecting the upper and lower sections of the park, a regrade with a low retaining wall that doubles as a sitting wall, new benches with the old commemorative plaques salvaged and reinstalled, and a reroof and repaint of the pavilion in its existing color. The town's construction notice was direct about the overlap: the work would run through the concert season and possibly the Fourth of July parade, so the series would continue at Town Park for the duration of the closure.

That's the piece worth knowing if you've lived here a while and have Menke Park filed away as "the concert spot." This year it isn't. Town Park is, at 498 Tamalpais Drive, behind the Community Center, and that's where every Sunday show has happened since the season opened on June 14.

What the construction is actually buying the town

It would be easy to read a park renovation as cosmetic. This one isn't quite that. The plan came out of a community meeting the town held to review the design with residents, and it was refined with input from a Town Council subcommittee that included Mayor Pat Ravasio and Council Member James Andrews alongside foundation members. The detail that says the most about what the town is planning for is a small one: one railing on the pavilion is being modified specifically to be removable for special events. That's not a maintenance fix. That's a park being built to keep hosting concerts, not just to look better while doing it. Three series, three calendars, one town

Here's the part that's easy to miss if you only track the Sunday series: there are two other free live music programs running in Corte Madera this summer, on completely different schedules, in completely different parts of town.

The Village's Acoustic Weekends is the loosest and longest-running of the three. It's not seasonal in the way the other two are. The lineup rotates through guitarists, steel drums, keyboard players, and Latin jazz trios, twice a week, in the open-air Center Court near the shops. If you've walked past on a Saturday afternoon and heard music without knowing what it was, that's what you were hearing.

The Town Center's first-Thursday series is the one that's already wrapped for the year. It ran June, July, and the first Thursday of August, and by the time you're reading this, that run is done until next summer. Worth knowing if you were planning around it and hadn't checked the calendar.

The old name still floating around online

If you search for this series and land on something calling it "Zinz Presents Music in Menke Park," that's not a different event. Zinz Wine Bar, the downtown spot known for its patio and its Pinot flights, has sponsored the Menke Park Sunday concerts under its own name in past seasons. It's the same Sunday tradition, just carrying a different presenting sponsor's name depending on which year's listing you happen to find. Worth knowing before you show up at the wrong time based on an old cached page.

What's left on the calendar

With the Town Center series done and the Village's Acoustic Weekends running indefinitely, the countdown that actually matters right now is the Sunday series at Town Park. Two dates remain:

1. August 23 — Jackie Greene, Americana and roots
2. August 30 — Danny Click and the Hell Yeahs, closing out the season

Bring a chair or a blanket, arrive a little early if you want a spot on the lawn near the front, and remember you're heading to Town Park, not Menke Park, for these last two Sundays.

None of this changes what makes Corte Madera worth living in day to day. The Corte Madera Town Band still plays with the same unpretentious warmth it always has. The lineup still leans into Americana, funk, and roots rock more than anything flashy. What's changed is logistics, not character, and logistics are exactly the kind of thing that trips up even longtime residents who assume this year looks like every other year.
